Sometimes you’ve got five freelancers active across projects.
Other months, it might just be two.
You don’t want to carry unnecessary seat costs when someone’s not actively working with you.
So the natural question becomes:
If I remove a freelancer, does that reduce my costs? And what happens when I add someone back later?
Outlign is designed to support flexible team structures like this.
When you remove a user, any unused portion of their subscription turns into credit. If you add someone later, that credit is automatically applied before any new charge occurs.
Here’s how it works in more detail;
When you remove a team member:
You stop paying for them going forward.
Any unused portion of their subscription is turned into credit.
That credit is automatically applied to:
Your next invoice, or
The next user you add.
There is no manual step required; it’s handled automatically by our billing.
When inviting a new team member:
If you have enough credit available, the immediate charge will be $0.00.
Your existing credit will be used to cover that user.
Your next invoice amount will adjust accordingly.
If you don’t have enough credit available:
You’ll be charged for the new user.
On yearly plans, this is pro-rated for the remainder of your billing cycle.
On monthly plans, it adjusts your next monthly invoice.
Let’s say:
You paid annually for 5 users.
You remove 1 user halfway through the year.
You now have credit for the unused portion of that seat.
If you:
Add a new freelancer → the charge may show as $0.00 (because credit is being used).
Add additional users beyond that credit → a pro-rated charge will apply.
If you regularly rotate subcontractors:
Remove freelancers when they finish a project.
Add new freelancers as needed.
As long as you stay within the number of seats you've effectively paid for, you won’t be double-charged.
The system is designed to support flexible team structures, especially agencies using contractors.
